Appalachia Project
Attending school is tough without the right stuff!
An exciting new project was started at Promised Land along with our sister church Mountain View in Amherst County. We are working with schools in the Appalachia area to provide needed items for students. The Lord led us to two schools in West Virginia where on August 27, after a 5-1/2 hour trip we happily delivered 140 brand new book bags filled with items to help students begin the new school year with the "right stuff". The excitement was contagious. Midway Elementary in Alum Creek, WV and Duval Elementary in Griffithsville, WV each received 70 book bags. Mrs. Pat Faulknier, principal and Laura Holders the guidance counselor of Midway and Sonya Dunlap the guidance counselor at Duval made certain the bags were distributed to the children. We were also able to leave a large "teacher box" for each school. They were equipped with item the teachers could uses throughout the year from staples, note pads, board cleaners and a variety of crafts, paper and many other items. Mrs. Faulknier said several bags were sent to another school that was in great need. God knew the name of every child who received a bag even before it was delivered. Praise Him!!! We also took some clothes to be distributed to those in need. We are excited about the expansion of the project. Whether we return to these schools or God sends us to others we are already well on our way with bags and clothes for next year. You may help by:
Special thanks go to all the individuals, Wal-Mart Stores and A.C. Moore Crafts for their donations and discounts. Their contributions helped make this project a success. Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. — Matthew 25:40
